About Hospice Care

Being diagnosed with a life-limiting illness or injury is the beginning of an incredibly difficult, emotional journey. This journey is not one you need to take alone.

The basic principle of hospice care is to support people in living until they die. That means embracing patients and their loved ones with support that helps them along this path. Our goal is to provide an extraordinary level of service to ensure that you and your family receive the compassion and dignity you deserve at the end of life—allowing you to live life to the fullest.

About Solvay Hospice House

At its essence, Solvay Hospice House is a peaceful place that allows people to spend their time in the most meaningful way possible. A place where patients, families and friends are supported. A place to reconcile and remember. A place of dignity, comfort and peace.

While the ideal hospice setting for most people is their own home, not everyone has the support or resources to die at home. Solvay Hospice House brings the expertise of hospice care into the warm and welcoming environment of a home setting. It gives hospice patients and families a place that provides 24-hour, high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care.

A Home For Our Entire Region

Solvay Hospice House was created for the community by Miller-Dwan Foundation, which owns and is responsible for the hospice’s continued stewardship. Generous donations from more than 1,500 individuals literally brought this home to life in 2007, and opened its doors to everyone.

The house is the only one of its kind in northern Minnesota. Staffed and operated by St. Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care Program, patients are referred to this Medicare-certified facility from throughout the region.
